Eco-Friendly Underwater
Hull Cleaning

No need to wait for your lift-out.

We've brought Keelcrab robotic hull cleaning to the Hamble. Your vessel stays in the water — we come to your berth. Faster performance, lower fuel bills, zero disruption to your season.

Speed for Sailing Boats

A clean hull is one of the fastest marginal gains before a race. Certified brushes safe on hard antifouling — removing slime without touching the paint. Ideal for IRC race boats.

Fuel Savings for Motor Boats

Marine fouling forces your engine to burn up to 30% more fuel. Regular in-water cleaning keeps your hull slick and running costs down — without leaving the marina.

Safe on All Hull Types

Hard antifouling, soft antifouling, bare gelcoat. For vessels without antifouling we use suction-only mode — effective cleaning with zero risk of damage.

HD Underwater Inspection Video

Every clean includes an HD ROV inspection video sent directly to you. Anode condition, propeller state, hull integrity — after every single visit.

Eco-Responsible

Integrated waste collection captures all debris. No chemicals dispersed into the harbour. Compliant with marina environmental standards across the Solent.

Charter operators: keep your fleet in the water all season. No lifting costs, no lost charter days. Ask about our multi-vessel programmes.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Keelcrab is an innovative underwater drone that cleans your boat's hull without the need to haul it out of the water. The unit attaches to the hull using a suction system and stays in position while it works across the entire surface under remote control.

The brushes counter-rotate at very low RPM, which is key: unlike traditional diver cleaning where scrubbing inevitably abrades the antifouling surface, Keelcrab's soft nylon brushes are designed to lift algae and biofilm from the coating without scratching or wearing it away. The result is an effective clean that actually extends antifouling life rather than reducing it.

All debris is captured in an onboard filter bag — nothing is released back into the marina water. Every clean includes a live HD camera feed and a video report sent directly to you afterwards. The system carries A.N.C.C.P. Certificate of Conformity (CERT-4/2014), independently verifying that it is safe for use on antifouling coatings.

Frequency depends on several factors — how often you use the vessel, which marina it is moored in, and water temperature and salinity. As a general rule, we recommend a minimum of every 3 months for maintenance purposes. We offer seasonal packages with 4 cleans spread throughout the year, which suits most boat owners on the Solent.

Direct savings:

  • A clean hull reduces drag — average fuel savings of 10–30% per season
  • Fewer lift-outs required — haul-out costs in UK marinas typically start from £500 and quickly reach into the thousands
  • Antifouling lasts longer — regular cleaning extends paint life and reduces the frequency and cost of repainting

Indirect savings:

  • Improved speed and performance means fewer engine hours for the same distance
  • Reduced risk of damage to propeller, rudder and stern gear from heavy fouling
  • Lower environmental impact — an advantage in marinas with strict environmental regulations

Very. We come to your berth — you don't need to move the boat. Book online or via WhatsApp, tell us your vessel length and marina, and we'll confirm a slot. The drone attaches to the hull itself, cleans and filters the debris, and we're done. You receive the HD inspection video directly afterwards. About as straightforward as it gets.

Yes. The Keelcrab PRO uses soft nylon brushes that are A.N.C.C.P. certified — meaning they are tested and approved as safe on hard antifouling paints, including IRC-class race antifouling. For vessels without antifouling, or with soft or sensitive coatings, we switch to suction-only cleaning mode, which cleans effectively without any brush contact at all.

Every clean includes a full HD video inspection of the hull, keel, rudder, propeller and visible anodes. We send the footage directly to you after each visit. This means you have a visual record of your hull condition below the waterline — useful for spotting osmosis, damage, anode wear or fouling build-up early, without the cost of a diver or lift-out.

Cleaning time depends on vessel size and the amount of fouling present. A typical clean on a 10–14m boat takes between 60 and 90 minutes. We don't rush — we give every hull the time it needs to get the best result. Unlike a traditional haul-out, there's no crane booking, no waiting for the yard to be available, and no disruption to your sailing schedule.

We are based on the Hamble River and cover all marinas within approximately 30 miles — including Port Hamble, Hamble Point Marina, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Universal Marina, Ocean Village, Shamrock Quay, Gosport Marina, Haslar Marina, Port Solent, Cowes Yacht Haven, Lymington Yacht Haven and more. Not sure if we cover your marina? Just get in touch and we'll confirm.
